πΉ Video push
π€ For: Game Masters Β· π³ Plan: All plans Β· π Updated 2026-10-17
Pushing a short video clip to every player's phone β an animated map intro, a custom cutscene, a dramatic reveal. This is not live yet: the player side can't play videos, so the GM controls are hidden for now.
β³ Coming soon. The player receiver isn't built yet, so the GM controls are hidden too. Use a scene push or a cut-in instead.
What it does
When it's finished, video push will let you send a short clip from the GM tool to all connected player phones and play it full-screen. Until the player side can play videos, there is nothing to send them to β so the GM tool doesn't show any way to send a video.
Current state
- The GM controls are hidden. The Video to players card in Live mode is gone, videos don't appear in the Live media list, and the Media page shows no π¬ Videos shelf and no π€ send buttons.
- Your video files stay. Videos you uploaded earlier are kept: πΎ Storage lists them on the Media shelf π¦ Everything by size, where you can also delete them. New videos can't be uploaded on the Media page for now β it accepts images and sounds.
- There is no "tap to skip", no fullscreen playback, and no Session Log entry for video pushes yet.
If you want movement and atmosphere on player phones today, the working tools are:
- Scene push β still images to every phone, in under a second. Free and unlimited.
- Cut-in system β short fullscreen visual flashes for Nat 20 / Nat 1 and dramatic beats.
Get clips ready for when it ships
You can still prepare clips now so you're ready the moment video push goes live. These are good defaults for phone playback:
- Codec: H.264 (the most compatible across iOS and Android)
- Container: MP4
- Resolution: 720p (1280 Γ 720) is plenty for a phone screen
- Frame rate: 30 fps
- Audio: AAC
- Web-optimised: save with "fast start" so playback can begin before the full file downloads
To convert a clip (e.g. an iPhone .mov or an editor export) to a clean web-ready MP4:
ffmpeg -i input.mov -c:v libx264 -preset slow -crf 23 \
-vf "scale=1280:720" -movflags +faststart \
-c:a aac -b:a 128k output.mp4
To strip audio for a silent clip:
ffmpeg -i video.mp4 -c copy -an silent.mp4
Keep clips short β a few seconds to under a minute. Video is the heaviest thing you can send to a phone, so it's best treated as a rare spice, not a constant.
Plan limits
Video push isn't billable while it's in development β there's nothing to charge for yet, because nothing reaches players. When it ships, pushing the video itself will be free, just like a scene push; only storage for any clips you upload counts against your quota. See Threads & AI overview for how billing works, and Storage & files to manage your space.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| I can't find the Video to players card or a π€ button for videos | Expected β the controls are hidden until the player receiver is built | Use a scene push or cut-in for now |
| My uploaded video doesn't show on the Media page | Same reason β the π¬ Videos shelf is hidden until video push is live | Nothing to fix today; the clip is stored and listed under πΎ Storage (π¦ Everything by size) |
| I want full-motion atmosphere right now | Video push isn't ready | An animated still scene + ambient sound is the closest working effect |
